Critique

I would like to thank all those involved with Crufts and the committee and officers, I would also like to mention how fabulous the judges briefing was and how useful I found it. I would also like to thank all of the exhibitors for their wonderful entry at such a special show. Judging was eventful especially during the bitches and I was not going to be rushed you paid your entries and I felt you deserved your money’s worth, some very rude photographers were in attendance to the point where one even pushed me out of the way to photograph the dogs, I was incredibly lucky to have such superb ring stewards and I thank them for doing a fabulous job whilst policing the press, dealing with all the stray children, guarding the results board as little ones thought it amusing to wipe the results off and restraining the judge who made their way into the ring deliberately pushing me into the table, my daughter says this isn’t the place to deal with them; but they will be dealt with none the less. All of my exhibitors were quite remarkable and I applauded you for excepting my choices, I can see that the breed is on the up in the UK, just a few criticisms, movement has improved, a lot of single tracking, not what I like to see on a flat surface, front movement should be steady without any sign of crossing, hind movement should be more parallel, having said that the blacks here today were by far the better movers and many a good example of how Buhunds should move, quite a few people commented on this after judging, one particular black in open bitch was unbelievable in her movement, two dogs had quite dirty teeth and one overshot, temperaments were good as usual, I regret I never got to get photographs of my winners and hope that the best puppy managed to get her photo with late Gail Hussey’s trophy, well done Jenny you looked great in the group ring.
VD (5) 1 Hoods, Ch Arnscroft Di Nah Sawr us Rex, VW, Sh.Ch 9 year old Wheaton, good outline and lovely head and expression, dark eyes, overall good bone but still lightly built, moved really well driving from his hocks, no signs of muscle wastage, definitely fit for purpose and a picture of health, well handled, very close between 1 and 2, this boy just had the edge. Best Veteran in breed. 2 Hekhuis, NL/EK Ch. Med Hjartas Assad, 11 year old black, I liked this black a lot, a really good size for a black, lively head, eyes and expression, mobile ears, good outline, level topline, excellent coat and condition and he can move, driving from his hocks with strong action, straight coming and going, such a proud carriage, no muscle wastage as yet and fit for purpose. 3 Cobb, Cobb, and Kent’s, Knytshall Diamond Ted, 7 year old Wheaton, one of my favourites and at 7 years old still looking good, love his head and expression, excellent outline and condition and a good size for a bu. Nice neat feet, moved really well again, this boy could do a day’s work. 4 Cooks, Arnscroft Di Ablo. VHC. Shorer- Wheeler’s and Gilles, Ch Arnscroft Di Na Mo Farrah of Koromandel VW. Sh.Ch.
JD (3) 1 Deuchers, Rikarlo Gable. 16 month old Wheaton, in good condition with nice coat and really well muscled, really good outline, darkest eyes, nice head and expression, compact, level topline which was kept on the move, neat feet, showed his socks off but hind movement should be more parallel, but he has time on his side this may improve with maturity, fit for purpose. 2 Le Flemming’s, Knytshall Edgar, 16 month old black, another lovely black dog, slightly longer cast than 1, excellent bone but still lightly built, I think this is what the breed needs, good outline, coat and condition, loved his head and expression, neat feet and good tail and set, another good mover, straight coming and going, handled well. 3 Sercombes, Trelowen Kristopher. 15 month old, a lovely black of good size, lovely outline well put together, lightly built, good head and expression, alert to sounds, neck to level topline giving the appearance of a proud carriage which I really liked, moved with purpose with maturity he should do well.
PGD (1) 1 Glibberys, Rikarlo Grant. 16 month old Rich Wheaton, lovely outline and head shape, expression and ears alert, lightly built of a good type, strong, level topline, good tail and set, moved well, neat feet.
LD (1) 1 Hood and Wildigs, Sturtmoor Eesa Geeza at Buhcafrey. 3 year old Wheaton, just stood out for me, I liked him for his outline,. Fitting into that picture frame of a more or less square dog, excellent condition, good coat, pretty handsome head, lovely eyes and perfect clean and healthy bite, mobile ears, good neck and topline, tail and set as standard and moved really well, this boy has had exercise just by feeling his muscles another fit for purpose. RDCC.
OD (4,1) 1 Sercombes, Trelowen Colane. 3 year old black which very much fits the standard, well proportioned, good in outline, a handsome boy, good expression, very alert, lightly built, moved really well, coming and going, side action kept his level topline well, fit for purpose. 2 Ch. Arnscroft Never say Di, 4 year old Wheaton of good size, nice head and dark eyes, good bone but still lightly built and in good muscular condition, level topline to a good tail and set, a bit long in the loin, good front and moved ok. 3 Hekhuis, Var Stolthet Thore Lif, 19 month old black, when this boy first came into the ring I thought this dog was my winner, absolutely stunning, good in outline, excellent type, good size for a black, pleasing head and expression, very masculine, level topline to correct set of tail, good bend of stifle, good coat, and moved with drive from correctly angulated hind quarters, but he was overwhelmed with the noise and surroundings, handled well under the circumstances.
GCD (1) 1 Cobb, Cobb and Kent’s, Ch Koromandel best served cold at Knytshall, 2 year old Wheaton, I liked this boy as a puppy, he knows how to show himself off, a well balanced dog of good size, head proportions as standard, dark eyes, strong neck running into well laid shoulders. Level topline, good tail and set, moved really well coming and going, kept his topline on the move, fit for a day’s work, DCC and BOB.
VB (4,1) 1 Sercombes, Ch/ Ire Ch. Tokyn Sequoia. CW 15, AW 15. 8 year old pale Wheaton, one of my favourites I have her a CC as a puppy and she still looks good, excellent type, well balanced and sound, pleasing in head and expression, strong neck running into great shoulders and topline, well ribbed and she can still move like a train but at 8 years the matron is plumping a bit, bless her. 2 Rumseys, Ch Arnscroft Di Nah May. A 7 year old Rich Wheaton, good outline standing, lightly built, good bone, legs straight and strong, nice head proportions, dark eyes, good ear set and very alert, nice expression, level topline, just didn’t move as well as 1 today. 3 Cobb, Cobb and Kent’s, Ch Trelowen Varyan to Knytshall. RL1. 10 year old pale Wheaton, squarely built, compact and feminine, good head, dark eyes, moved well for her age, her coat was good but her pink feet let her down.
PB (3) 1 Lambert’s, Sturtmoor Free’n Eezee. 11 month old Rich Wheaton, good outline, great substance and a looker, good head and expression, used her ears well, lightly built but solid, legs straight and strong when she kept still, a patient handler here, she moved her really well, she earnt her best puppy! RCC, Best Puppy in Breed. 2 Shorer-Wheeler and Deeles, Sturtmoor Ffascination with Koromandel, 11 month old Wheaton, another lovely pup, stood well for her handler, good outline and a good size, legs straight and strong, sister to 1, a bit rangy at the moment but that will change, lovely head, darkest eyes and lovely expression, waggiest bum so far! 3 Rumseys, Kata Syndattir AV Fjeildvidda (imp) 10 month old shaded Wheaton at present, this bitch reminded me of the old type of bu, which is a good thing, she is what the breed needs, again a bit rangy, but she’s a baby, stood well, great outline, loved her head and face makeup!, Really lovely expression, good topline, moved straight and true, No single tracking here! A really happy baby.
JB (2) 1 Cobb ,Cobb and Kent’s, Knytshall Eloise, 18 month old black, lightly built, smooth lying coat, typical head, dark eyes, and neat we’ll set ears, looking good in outline and significantly angulated, moved well, just needs to fill out. 2 Kania’s, Rikarlo Garbo, 16 month old Wheaton, good outline standing, pigment very good here. Lovely feminine head and expression, dark eyes, mobile ears, well balanced and sound, good front, great coat texture, moved ok, just needs to fill out.
PGB (1) 1 Strongs, Leggatts Dancing queen at Draccus, 19 month old black, a beautiful rich black coat and correct texture, excellent outline, feminine head and expression, mobile ears, alert, good neck to topline and good set on of tail, lightly built and. Well proportioned, handler and bitch moved really well, one of the better movers, straight coming and going and not single tracking, neat feet, to be critical I would like her a bit bigger.
LB (1) 1 Butterworth’s, Koromandel Gold the Lily. 2 year old lovely Wheaton, good bone but still lightly built, typical head, feminine, good stop, dark eyes. Smart compact body, neat feet and good coat condition, moved well for handler.
OB (4) 1 Sercombes, Trelowen Dizzy Rascal, 4 year old Wheaton, my notes say “ As Standard!”, the whole outline is. The Buhund picture, loved her head and dark eyes, all in proportion, ears mobile, feminine expression, sufficiently angulated in the hind quarters, forequarters straight and strong, moved really well, neat feet, good coat and condition. BCC RBOB. 2 Norman, Isaac and Hussey’s, Ch Arnscroft Delilah at Veekay. 2 year old Wheaton, another nice bitch, lovely head and expression, alert to all the sounds, nice type, good front assembly, in good fit condition, neat feet, moved ok. 3 Irvine and Gillies, Kimuras Vera with Tapui (imp). 5 year old Rich Wheaton, feminine head, dark eyes, good neck to level topline, good tail and set. Lightly built, forequarters straight and strong, neat feet, moved ok. 4 Hekhuis, Var Stolthet Gander Lif, 21 month old black, this black bitch deserved a mention here! I haven’t seen a Buhund move like this in years, positively straight coming and going, side action was amazing, I could have watched her for hours, shame she was just lacking that compact outline, certainly well off for bone and substance.
